Sitting here at my desk being hypnotized by a JGB show from 2/5/81 I grabbed last night and I am both filled with that warm fuzzy you get from a really sweet Jerry jam in a "Harder They Come", as well as a feeling of true helplessness. Until recently I had actually begun to slow my acquisition of shows, happily settling in to actually listen to many of them that I hadn't given proper time to. Well, then the bastards over at the Arrow decide "Hey, lets start putting up Jerry solo stuff". Again, bastards. Now I'm faced with the pending need to add yet more HD space to make room for these nuggets.

Oh, sweet agony. Putting this up not so much to complain, but also to give a heads up to anyone who is looking to beef up their Jerry Band collection that there now exists a source of happiness.

Hey SDH
Wondering if you can help. Im going to get an external
HD and was wondering what sort of GB I would need to put
everything at speeding. Do you think 320 would be pleanty?

You mean "get" everything at the Arrow? If that's what you mean, not sure exactly how much space you'd need. If you are content with MP3 over lossless (as I am), I'd have to guess. I've only got about 250 shows on HD in MP3 and they take up only about 60 GB, so at that ratio 320 GB would fit around 1300 shows. If, however, you're looking at lossless, that number will be cut significantly. However, a basic answer to your question would be that at the GB you are considering, you can fit a royal butt load of MP3's and an impressinve number of lossless.

Keep in mind that I am technically handicapped and have gained what little knowledge I have through trial and error. I'm sure there are many, many others here infinitely more qualified than I to speak to this issue.

Thank You SDH. That actually was helpful.
Im convinced that 500 would be good just to have.
Suitable for everything until my computer illiterate
ass switches to lossless too.
"Trial and error"--we sound alike in that sense

Thanx again

You'll need a 500 GB drive to get everything. :-)

Nice to hear about your find at the Arrow. I have snagged some good "jgb" shows at SugarMegs, and they sound surprisingly good to me considering their relatively low bitrates. I could not find the Arrow with a google search. Would you be so kind as to post a link?

They aren't too fond of posting links to their site, but try double u, double u, double u"dot"speedingarrow"dot"net and you should be able to find it. Once there you have to submit a request for a log in. Takes a day or two to get a response. Well worth it.

Actually, links to the main page are OK, I'm just leery of links to the file folders:

Thank you. I went, and found I am already a member of the Zephyr Forum!--but had not visited for a while. I had realized that with about 500 5 star Dead shows from the LMA on a hard drive, at hifi quality, I was not going to download any more from Zephyr. Now I have a new reason to visit. Thaks for the tip.

Christmas is right around the corner. Make sure your wife/significant other wraps your new HD in appropriate psychadelic wrappings.

I must say I was overjoyed when I found all of the new Jerry at the Zypher - be sure to check out Roseland '83
